I'm
writing this note with sadness over the loss of our mascot Alfie.
We set sail this morning from Magothy River across the Chesapeake
to the Corsica River on the Eastern shore. About a quarter of the
way our friend moved closer to us, stuck his head under seat cushions
near us and laid down, he never awakened. We noticed that he wasn't
breathing but didn't disturb him, partly because we were busy with
sailing duties and partially because we couldn't believe that he
was gone.
Recently,
he was having difficulty breathing and walking long distances so
it's somewhat of a relief to know that he is at peace. We will miss
him and his antics, his deep barking voice requesting to "Play
the Game" and the lack of his companionship but we will remember
him always for his gentle demeanor and his frequent glances.
We
are currently at anchor in the Corsica River waiting out some bad
weather. There are farms all around us. It seemed fitting that Alfie
be on land so we found a quiet place for him back on the farm to
be laid to rest.
